Leaving the port, we made a right and walked about 2 blocks to find the 7-11 (next to the Pemex gas station) to meet our driver. We had booked the 9am departure but I hadn’t realized our ship didn’t dock until 10am. They were kind enough to let us take the excursion at 12pm instead.
We were escorted to a taxi that drove us to the two-acre farm. There we met Carlos who told us about the history of the farm, many of the fruit trees, and the animals. Following these explanations (about 90 minutes), we sat down to try some local drinks like Horchata, coconut, and tequila. Afterward, we “helped” Carlos make some snacks (a Mayan pumpkin dip and guacamole) and then ate some chicken sopes. (It was all delicious!) Soon after, our taxi came to drive us back to the port.
This was a great opportunity to meet locals and better understand life in Cozumel. 5 stars!!
If you are looking for different experience with no expectations, get ready to laugh and enjoy 3 hours on Carlos’ farm. This is not a tourist trap nor scripted tour. Carlos’ family work on the farm and all add to the entertainment. Food was farm to table and excellent. We learned about secret ingredients and even got quizzed a few times. This is a “must do” if you’re looking for a cooking class with a twist and have a good sense of humor.
